Maserati Granturismo, the work of art designed by Pininfarina was presented for the first time in 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show. Since then, different versions have been produced and today the line is the same, a timeless line with the addition of some particular aesthetic details.

Maserati GranTurismo: lines and design

The front is occupied for most of the space by the iconic Maserati grille, an element of pure aggressiveness thanks to the “shark” shape with vertical chrome stems and the trident positioned in the center.

The light clusters have a more rounded shape than the other models of the Italian house but not for this less attractive, they have also integrated the daytime led and the three-dimensional “Maserati” writing inside them. On the same vertical line of the optical groups we find in the lower part enormous air intakes that convey the currents to the powerful propeller.

The bonnet is elongated with ribs and air intakes (the latter only in the Mc version) which stand out due to its sportier line compared to Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante.

On the side, you can see the division of the spaces in favor of a more elongated front and a more trunk back. The side cut is very clean and gives way to the 3 air intakes (stylistic element of all Maserati cars) with the addition of a further vent also in the lower part of the front mudguard. The back is formed by two LED optical groups with a triangular geometry developed horizontally, in the center a chrome strip joins the two headlights and immediately places the brand lettering on top. The lower part houses an extractor split into 3 zones, the two air intakes split at the sides and the two central exhaust pipes.

A sinuous general design, without edges or interruptions but harmoniously designed succeeding in developing a car difficult to age. A car that even today, despite the few changes on the aesthetic level, is the reference point in its segment, teaching rivals that a well-designed design can hardly be surpassed.

The interiors, a sports lounge

The interiors use materials of excellent workmanship but leave room for elements that recall the sporty character such as the Alcantara in the central part of the seats (while the leather is used on the sides), in the central tunnel, in the door panels and in the bridge contrast.

Further materials are the carbon also spread here in the previously described areas and also used in the steering wheel rim. A further note is the Easy Entry system which allows passengers to get out of the passenger compartment more easily thanks to the electrically sliding seats. The trunk has a maximum capacity of 260 liters.

Despite this car points to the pleasure of driving and at the same time to luxury and comfort, there was an abundant dose of technology with the implementation of the new 8.4-inch Maserati Touch Control Plus infotainment composed of a rotary selector that allows the management. There are also Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

Another peculiarity is the possibility to control the infotainment with touch screen technology or with voice commands. Finally, there is a compartment for the smartphone with an internal sd card reader, USB socket and aux in.

Let’s move on to the heart of this car, the engine. A V8 that develops 460hp with a torque of 520Nm at 7500 rpm. This engine in addition to an exceptional driveability guarantees performances of all respect with a sprint from 0 to 100km / h in 4.7-4.8s (depending on the version) and top speed around 300km / h, all seasoned with a change ZF 6-speed MC Auto Shift with 5 driving modes (Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport and ICE). the sound does not disappoint, it puts the chills at each tilt.

The Maserati distinctive character provides a fairly equitable arrangement with a slight prevalence of weight at the rear (in fact the engine is positioned behind the front axle). The total weight of the car is 1745kg.

The suspensions are double quadrilateral, the power steering is hydraulic, the brakes are Brembo and a limited slip mechanical differential is used. The Skyhook system is also standard and manages to control the shock absorbers allowing their continuous adaptation to the road surface.

Maserati GranCabrio

Maserati GranCabrio is precisely the convertible version of the GranTurismo. The general aesthetics, the engine, the floor and its more technical parts are the same, some stylistic details change, such as the interiors with Poltrona Frau seats in leather and Alcantara.

The hood is made of canvas and guarantees a considerable advantage in terms of lightness compared to a rigid solution. It opens and closes electrically in just 28 seconds. The total weight of the car is higher than the GranTurismo, 2055kg. Even the boot decreases in capacity and reaches 173 liters.
