Quattroporte is the flagship of the Maserati brand, a machine with an unmistakable design. The Italian iconic aesthetics makes it stand out from its German rivals thanks to a characteristic not to be overlooked: often in a flagship the most important factors are luxury, elegance and general comfort but with the Quattroporte another aspect is added, the pleasure of driving.
Maserati Quattroporte: dimensions and design
The dimensions are: 5.26m in length, 1.94 in width and 1.48 in height. The car aesthetically compared to the first versions changes the “face-lift” approaching the external design of the younger sister Ghibli. The front develops two aggressive but more harmonious optical groups compared to other Maserati models, they also use adaptive full led matrix technology that guarantees an excellent light beam (while reducing energy consumption) and widening the 200 viewing angle % compared to traditional halogen lamps.
At the sides of the frontal they occupy a lot of space the air vents with honeycomb texture and glossy black frame, in the center we find the inevitable grille with concave design and chromed vertical stems already seen on Maserati Levante (with also the trident in the center which hides the radar of the active cruise control). In the side part, the 3 typical Maserati air intakes remain in place, on the same vertical line as the 3 vents, but in the lower zone there is the name of the setup.
The Quattroporte side is long, curvy and imposing also by the remarkable length of this car. At the rear, we find the two LED headlights with horizontal development and the 4 exhaust pipes (which change shape depending on the engine). Inevitable details like the trident on the third rear pillar and chrome almost everywhere.
Fashionable interiors by Ermenegildo Zegna
The trunk is obviously electro-actuated and with a capacity of 530 liters it exceeds the Germans abundantly (it also has a considerable depth). The doors are made even more refined thanks to the lack of the upright around the windows, bringing this car closer to a “like coupe” design. Entering the passenger compartment you breathe the air of Made in Italy not only in aesthetic terms but above all to the excellent quality of the leather used (with contrasting stitching) and that often in the seats can be coupled with other premium materials (silk) signed by the designer Ermenegildo Zegna.
The door panels bring the use of aluminum in chrome finish and other shiny black inserts to the materials already mentioned. We find plastic only in areas away from the eye such as the lower part of the doors or in the central upright where the seat belts are positioned for the two front passengers. For the rest, even these more “plastic” parts are of excellent workmanship and perfectly assembled with the other materials used.
At the center of the dashboard we find on the upper part the analog clock with a chrome finish, a classic element inevitable in cars of this segment that embrace the latest technology but also timeless stylistic elements. On the driver’s side we find the steering wheel covered in leather with a glossy black finish in the crown, behind it the aluminum vanes.
The infotainment drowned in the central area of the dashboard is an 8.4-inch Maserati Touch Control Plus with an intuitive and reactive interface that allows the driver to control the heating of the front seats, the ventilation, the heating of the steering wheel, the management of the curtains sun visor and rear-view camera management. Furthermore, the system integrates Apple Car Play (With Apple Siri function you can use voice commands) and Android Auto.
There are also special features: automatic dual-zone climate control manages the intensity of the ventilation based on the temperature outside the car (optional is the four-zone air conditioner), kyless entry function that allows you to enter the car without removing the keys from the pockets, electrochromic side mirrors, the electric rear sun blinds, all the windows in thermal glass which guarantee insulation from both noise and temperatures, guaranteeing absolute comfort, a 900 watt Harman Kardon Premium sound system or alternatively the 1280 watt Bowers & Wilkins Premium Surround system.
If we move to the security side, Quattroporte uses advanced driver assistance systems: the Maserati Stability Program, integrated vehicle control, active airbags and headrests, tire pressure monitoring system, LKA (Lane Keeping Assist, driver assistance system, HAS), road sign recognition, advanced front collision avoidance, active blind spot assistance, surround view camera.
Driving pleasure, but thanks to a mechanic of detail
The mechanical sector involves the use of a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that manages gear changes based on driving style, plus the seventh and eighth gear are calibrated to reduce emissions, fuel consumption and improve driving comfort in long journeys. The driving modes available are: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sporte I.C.E.
The traction is equipped with an intelligent system that guarantees a pleasant drive thanks to the rear-wheel drive but that if necessary shifts the torque in just 150 milliseconds in all 4 wheels in order to guarantee maximum safety. Other aspects to consider are: Shyhook suspensions equipped with continuously variable damping dampers, electro-assisted steering that allows greater vehicle maneuverability at low speeds and in tight spaces, and Brembo brakes with Dual-cost technology that combines the strength of cast iron with the lightness of aluminum.
