New Porsche 911 Carrera S: strength returns

The 911 returns to the forefront. The new Porsche 911 Carrera S model, a 4-seater coupe, represents the eighth generation of a myth, which never stops to renew itself and to amaze. The changes made to the silhouette of the 911 Carrera S perfect and enhance the line, while technological research and the digital revolution have made it capable of extraordinary performance.

The Porsche 911 Carrera S reaches the remarkable speed of 308 km/h, thanks to the 6-cylinder rear engine with 2 turbochargers and 2 intercoolers, new generation – aluminum block and cylinder head – 3 liters of displacement, which develops a power of 450 hp (331 kW).

The engine is equipped with two particulate filters and 2 3-way catalysts. 530 Newton meters is the maximum torque, at an rpm of between 2,300 and 5,000. The acceleration is really impressive: from 0 to 100 Km / h in 3.7 s, which is reduced to 3.5 with the optional Sport Chrono and Launch Control package.

The gearbox is the innovative and fast PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) robotic, double clutch, 8-speed. Let’s take a look at consumption: on urban routes there is a consumption of 10.7 l / 100 Km, which is reduced to 7.9 l / 100 Km on extra-urban routes. The tank has a capacity of 64 l.

Porsche 911 Carrera S: technologies on board

High-tech devices are available to support every driving style and type of route. One example is the PTV Plus (Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus) standard, equipped with a rear differential with electronic control, which distributes torque in a variable way, guaranteeing greater stability and trajectory precision, when cornering.

The PASM frame (Porsche Active Suspension Management) constantly optimizes the rigidity of the suspension (provided with anti-roll bars), based on any unevenness of the ground, keeping the car more stable and driving more comfortable. Among the options we find the PASM Sportivo chassis lowered by 10 mm, with a mechanical self-locking rear differential, which gives greater balance.

The traditional PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake), from the traditional brake calipers, with fixed aluminum monobloc calipers – front 6-piston and rear 4-piston – red, with perforated self-ventilating brake discs of 350 mm yellow pincers features. Built with innovative ceramic material and particularly light, the front brake discs have a diameter of 410 mm, while the rear ones are 390 mm, to guarantee an extraordinary reaction and braking power, also thanks to the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) system, with ABS to optimize the function of the brakes.

The power steering is electromechanical, with a variable transmission ratio and steering wheel pulse generator. The new 911 Carrera S has wheels of different sizes. While the front wheels are 20 “and fitted with 245/35 ZR 20 tires, the rear ones are 21”, and they are fitted with 305/30 ZR 21 tires, always with a view to greater vehicle stability.

Dimensions and equipment

The dimensions of the 911 Carrera S register some variation compared to the past. The length is 4,519 mm, the width of 1,852 mm, and the height of 1,300 mm. The coefficient of resistance (Cx) is equal to 0.29 cx.

The 2-zone air conditioning system is supplied as standard. Among the aesthetic innovations, the handles incorporated in the bodywork stand out, with less impact on the fluidity of the line. All the main controls are positioned on both sides of the steering wheel, to allow greater concentration on the guide.

The optional Sport Chrono package, with the Mode switch and the Porsche Track Precision app, in addition to giving a more sporty setting to the chassis, engine and gearbox, offers the possibility to record driving data. There are five driving modes to choose from, using the Mode button: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual mode and Wet mode, which supports the driver on a wet road. Also on request, the Park Assistant is available, both front and rear.

The safety apparatus includes full-size airbags for rider and passenger and the POSIP system (Porsche Side Impact Protection System) that protects in the event of a side impact, even though side bars integrated inside the doors.
