Porsche 718 Cayman GTS: it doesn't just roar. It bites!

To complete the 718 range, the Cayman GTS, the most sporty and powerful of the series, together with its sister roadster Boxster GTS enters the field. With her look a bit “dark”, both inside and outside, simply beautiful, she seems to want to launch you a challenge.

It has a height of 1,286 mm, a width of 1,801 mm (1,994 mm with external mirrors), a wheelbase of 2,475 mm, and a length of 4,393 mm. The tank has a capacity of 64 liters. The coefficient of resistance (Cx) is 0.32. The empty weight of 1,450 kg goes to 1,480 with the PDK gearbox. The maximum load is 300 kg.

Porsche 718 Cayman GTS: “small” engines grow

The 4-cylinder thermo-compressed Boxer engine, which had already shown what it was made of in previous models, is proposed in the 718 Cayman GTS in an enhanced version while remaining faithful to the range of consumption recorded by the 350 hp, which see a minimum increase only on urban routes.

4 cylinder Boxer 2.5 liters of displacement, new intake duct and optimized turbocharger, equipped with variable geometry turbine (VTG), intercooler, central position, with 365 HP (269 kW), it reaches a speed of 290 km / h. Maximum torque of 420 Newton meters, supplied between 2,100 and 5,500 rpm, with manual gearbox, and 430 Nm, delivered between 2,100 and 5,000, with PDK gearbox. Rear-wheel Drive.

Porsche 718 Cayman GTS: interior

The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h of the 718 Cayman GTS takes place in 4.6 seconds for cars with manual gearboxes, and in 4.3 s for cars with PDK gearboxes, being able to move to 4.1s with the Sport Chrono series package and Launch Control function. Consumption on the urban route of the 718 Cayman GTS stands at 12.8 l / 100 km for cars with manual gearboxes and 12.0 l / 100 km for cars with PDK gearboxes. On extra-urban routes, there is a consumption of 7.1 l / 100 km with manual gearbox, and 6.5 l / 100 km with PDK gearbox.

Advanced technology, impeccable mechanics

The standard gearbox is 6-speed with dual mass flywheel. As an option, as for the other 718 Series models, the PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) 7-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox is available. The PDK is one of the most recommended options, due to its influence on the car’s performance.

The chassis of the 718 Cayman GTS with PASM as standard ensures greater maneuverability. The PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) is the electronic system for adjusting the dampers of each individual wheel, depending on the road surface and the chosen driving mode. The body is lowered by 10 mm compared to models 718 and 718 S. The whole ensures better stability, an increase in performance and – last but not least – greater safety.

Among the options on the 718 GTS models, we find a PASM sports chassis in which the body is lowered by 20 mm and the suspensions are stiffer and shorter. The PTV control system (Porsche Torque Vectoring) is offered as standard, which provides increased driving dynamics and stability, through the variable distribution of torque to the rear wheels, with a mechanical self-locking rear differential. In facing a curve, the device regulates the braking of the internal rear wheel, accompanying the car in the trajectory of the steering, increasing its accuracy.

As an alternative to the electromagnetic power steering with variable transmission ratio and steering pulses, standard, the Plus power steering is offered as an option, which gives greater maneuverability in city traffic and in car parks.

The automatic regulation system PSM (Porsche Stability Management) is also standard, for the optimization of the braking system, which on GTS models is equipped with fixed monobloc calipers in red aluminum, with 4 pistons, and self-ventilated perforated discs. The parking brake is electric. It is optional in the PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake) braking system, with carbon ceramic discs.

Rear view

On the 718 Cayman GTS we find the 20 ”Carrera S wheels, black. The 8J x 20 ET 57 front wheels have 235/35 ZR20 (88Y) tires, while the 10J x 20 ET 45 rear wheels are fitted with the 265/35 ZR20 (95Y).

The 718 Cayman GTS lighting system includes Bi-Xenon main headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights as standard. We find – among the options – the PDLS (Porsche Dynamic Light System), which includes, among other things, the dynamic adjustment of the lighting depth, for an optimal view and greater driving safety. On the 718 Cayman GTS, driver and passenger are protected by full-size airbags.

Driving comfort

The elegant and eye-catching interior design – rich in Alcantara details – focuses on the “total black”, which enhances the character of the 718 Cayman GTS. Sport seats Plus are standard with electric backrest adjustment and both longitudinal and height manual adjustment.

The standard Sport Chrono package offers excitement. Together with the “mode” button on the GT sports steering wheel, which allows you to choose between four different driving modes. Also standard is the PTP app (Porsche Track Precision), which allows you to record driving data on your smartphone.

Porsche 718 Cayman GTS: infotainment and price

The “Porsche Communication Management” multimedia system is supplied as standard, including the preparation of the telephone module and audio interfaces. Also standard is the “Sound package Plus”, with an integrated amplifier and 8 speakers, for a total power of 150 watts.

The base price of the 718 Cayman GTS is 80,491 euros including VAT, which include a more generous standard equipment than previous models.
