The 718 series, born on the sporting glories of the 1957 Porsche 718, presents its Cayman and Boxster models, in the T version. The 718 Cayman T is powered by the “small” and powerful 4 cylinder Boxer engine, 2 liters of displacement equipped with a GPF particulate filter which, from its rear-central position, develops (with rear-wheel drive) a power of 300 hp – 220 kW, with a maximum torque of 380 Newton meters, at a rpm of between 2,150 and 4,500.
Porsche 718 Cayman T: consumption and emissions
The decision to move from the usual 6-cylinder to this gritty 4-cylinder was taken to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, fully achieving the goal. Urban consumption (with standard manual gearbox) reaches 11.3 l / 100 Km, falling to 11.8 l / 100 Km in the case of cars with PDK transmission. Significantly reduced consumption on extra-urban routes: 6.3 l / 100 Km (with manual gearbox) and 6.2 l / 100 Km (with PDK gearbox). 275 km / h is the maximum speed. Acceleration from 0 – 100 km / h (with manual gearbox) is 5.1 seconds, falling to 4.9 with the PDK gearbox.
The standard gearbox is the traditional 6-speed gearbox, which sees, however, reduced strokes and a shorter lever. Among the options the PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) is proposed as an alternative, a 7-speed robotic gearbox with double clutch, widely recommended for 718 Series cars.
The most characteristic note of the T version is certainly the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) sport chassis fitted as standard, which lowers the body by 20 mm and has shorter and stiffer suspensions. The PASM has 2 options, selectable via a button located in the central tunnel, which regulate the rigidity of the shock absorbers, increasing it when switching from the “normal” mode to the “sporting” one. Given a coefficient of resistance (Cx) at 0.30, the dimensions, with a length of 4.379 mm, and a width of 1.801 mm, vary in height, with 1.276 mm, against the 1.295 of the other Series 718 cars, without prejudice to the wheelbase at 2,475 mm and the tank 54 l.
The fixed monobloc aluminum calipers in 4-piston aluminum, front and rear, are in black, with a front diameter of 330 mm, and a rear of 299 mm. The 718 Cayman T is equipped with PSM (Porsche Stability Management), including ABS, to optimize the braking system, and power steering, electromagnetic with variable transmission ratio and steering pulses.
The Titanium alloy wheels, Gray of the 718 Cayman in T version, are 20 “, applied on front tires 235/35 ZR 20 and on rear tires 265/35 ZR 20. The standard headlights include integrated LED daytime running lights, while – among the optional features – the complete LED lighting group is shown.
Distinguishing marks: born to be sporty
The first Porsche to have the initials T (Touring) was the 911, at the dawn of the seventies. Today, the 718 Cayman “inherits” it fully, in its sense of passion for driving.
The sporty soul of the 718 Cayman T finds exaltation in the vast equipment available and in the aesthetic details, both standard and optional. Surely, the lowered PASM chassis as standard, the reduced shifting of the gearbox and the 20 “wheels are the most salient features of the T Series.
Not least is the Sport Chrono package, which allows you to select the driving style from four modes: Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. The Sport Plus function, in combination with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) and PADM (Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts), allows better control of driving dynamics, reducing vibrations in the engine/gearbox compartment.
Porsche 718 Cayman T: silhouette and interior
The new 718 Cayman T has, in the 20 “alloy wheels and in the PASM sports chassis that lowers the body by 20 millimeters, its distinctive signs, in addition to the logo reproduced on both sides and on the rear side. The usual standard range of colors is joined by two specifically dedicated to the T version: Miami Blue and Lava Orange.
It is equipped with Plus sports seats, with electric adjustment of the backrest and manual in height and forward movement, with silver colored shell, central Sports-Tex band, side and leather headrest: all under a cloth roof.
The GT sports steering wheel, 360 mm in diameter, is manually adjustable in height and depth. The total capacity of the two luggage compartments, front and rear, is 275 liters. Convenient storage compartments are provided on the doors, plus two in the central tunnel, one of which is open and one is closed. There are also coat hooks on the back of the seats and two convenient beverage holders.
Multimedia and price
The new PCM (Porsche Communication Management), which includes the preparation of the telephone module and audio interfaces, is not included in the standard equipment but is supplied, upon request, without additional costs.
The choice to make the multimedia system optional (although free) was made to compensate for the weight of the GPF anti-particulate system and gives way to a large glove box.
About price lists, the price of the sporty Porsche 718 Cayman T, with all the standard equipment, is 66,000 euros.
