Porsche 911 Carrera 4s and Carrera 4s Cabriolet: timeless design

The aesthetics of the new Porche 911 Carrera 4s (992 series) is in line with the previous models, a classic and timeless line typical of the Stuttgart company. Although the design is very faithful to the purist character of this car, fresh aesthetic updates and modernity have been developed.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4s: dimensions and design

The dimensions are 4.51 m in length, 1.85 in width and 2.45 m in pitch. A major change is perhaps the rear which remains the same since the early 911 models but which this time houses different headlights taken from the style of the new Panamera thanks to a continuous led that joins them for the whole width. The optical unit is moved higher and leaves little space under the brand lettering and the very pronounced bumper, almost “fattened”.

Going further down we find the 4 massive exhausts (also available with only 2 exhausts on both sides but more pronounced in terms of size) and the number plate is placed in the middle of the exhausts. Above the optical unit, we find the spoiler, which grew by 45% compared to the previous model and with electro-actuated opening/closing.

Rear view

From the rear towards the roof of the car, we then encounter the grille, an iconic element of this car that joins the rear windshield. The grid also implements a new stop light developed in a vertical line which, however, is hidden when the spoiler rises. At the opening of the latter, however, a second stoplight returns, integrated under the wing.

The front is made up of traditional oval-shaped headlights but this time integrated much better with the car’s line following its aerodynamic profile. Inside the light clusters, we can find active matrix LED headlights with 84 light points that can modulate the light beam both for vehicles that cross on the road and in the trajectories that you decide to take when driving.

On the lower part of the front, we find two large air intakes on both sides with flaps that open and close depending on the car’s air requirements and also based on the selected driving mode. Immediately above the air intakes, we find a horizontal led strip. The bonnet in this new 911 is redesigned with a central digging that makes it much more aggressive and slender at the front. The side cut of the car is instead very clean, there are no special air inlets or ribs, everything is in line with the ideal Porsche.

On the other hand, we can notice the circles with completely new geometries and in addition an aspect never found in the previous models: they are mounted on the front of the 20-inch wheels while on the rear by 21 inches, to these are added steel discs and radial 6-point calipers pistons in front and 4 pistons in back (carbon-ceramic instead).

Other 3 details to consider are the redesigned rear-view mirrors to improve not only the aerodynamics but also the rustling of the wind, the retractable handles and the bodywork made entirely of aluminum.

Essential, elegant interiors with everything in the right place

The interiors change considerably thanks to strong technological updates. On the driver’s side, we have in the dashboard area the analog tachometer in the center flanked by two 7-inch digital screens each with both circular elements inside for speed indication and other technical features.

At the center of the dashboard, we find the 10.9-inch touch screen infotainment with the Porsche Connect app and smartphone synchronization functions. It is possible to organize the agenda and also the goals to be reached thanks to a system of maps available online updated instantly. Voice recognition allows you to get info on weather, destination, news on the economy, sports policy and current events directly from the car.

In the central tunnel, there is the redesigned gear lever, much more contained in terms of size and which no longer acts mechanically but electronically (it is an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission). The central tunnel has both physical and touch keys like those of the air conditioner, those for adjusting the seats and the parking brake, all very clean with the essential at hand and comfortable while driving.

We find other buttons at the steering wheel like the management of driving modes divided into 5: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual mode and Wet mode (useful for the latter in the case of driving in wet conditions). Finally, the Sport Chrono package is available with apps for managing lap times and various driving data.

Moving on to materials and design, the lines of the interiors abandon the vertical development to embrace a horizontal development that is very visible both on the dashboard area and on the door panels. The seats are lightened by 3 kg compared to the previous ones and can be configured in leather but with the possibility in the central area of a carbon-like texture (sports seats Plus are also available that offer greater lateral containment in sports driving). There are also interior decorations in dark Diamar silver, in Diamar light silver but also brushed aluminum or noble wood. From a tactile point of view, the assembly is very good, every material and button gives an excellent feeling.

Also on the safety side driving Porsche does not miss anything: emergency braking, wet wheel recognition system that assists the driver, adaptive speed adjustment system and ParkAssistant with Surround view.

4S Cabriolet Version

A boxer engine with a thousand surprises

The Boxer engine despite having been squeezed year after year also in this new version goes further with a 6-cylinder twin-turbo engine with 450hp and maximum torque of 530Nm which allows it to reach 100km/h in just 3.4s and a speed of 306km/h.

The engine is moved more to the center of the car, guaranteeing lower vibrations but above all greater stability of the car. The PTM (Porsche Traction Management) and the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) are also not to be underestimated, ensuring propulsive thrust and excellent driving dynamics even in extreme situations. The latter has two functions added to the PTV (Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus) which guarantees excellent traction with precise and lightning-fast steering.

Consumption stands at what the house provided on 9 liters per 100km and 207g / km CO2 emissions.
