Porsche Macan 2019, the younger sister of the Cayenne and inspired by the design of the 911, remains unchanged in terms of size compared to the previous version (4.70m in length, 1.6 in height, 2.81 in pitch and a non-feather weight around 1900kg).
The aesthetic line receives more updates to the rear rather than front and side thanks to the new headlights joined for the entire width by a very pronounced red LED light beam that makes it unique and immediately recognizable by other cars at night. In addition, the rear is a bit more “rounded”, making it very powerful to the eye.
The lettering of the German brand is immediately below the long LED strip. In the lower part we find the extractor of the air with on the sides the two enormous drains (which can optionally be chosen in a sportier version split with 4 total drains).
The front adopts two ovalized light clusters that have not changed aesthetically except for the technicalities of the light beams with 4 LED light points, active matrix technology and new air intakes on the lower part of the grille. The sidecut is clean but in tension developing an ideal of strong sportiness in this car enriched also by the coupe shape of the roof. A special aspect is the option of pneumatic suspension control which allows the car to be raised or lowered from the ground.
A very functional trunk
The trunk opens with a button integrated in the rear wiper attachment point (this solution is much more convenient to reach) and is then electro-actuated with automatic electric opening and closing. The capacity is 500 liters and is divided into 40/20/40 with the possibility of breaking down the seats in a perfectly horizontal manner obtaining 1500 liters final (it is optional with a cost not too excessive of 329 euros is the “load management system “Consisting of two fixing rails, a telescopic rod, 4 eyelets, a roll-up strap and the mesh partition of the luggage compartment).
Porsche Macan: interior and design
Entering the passenger compartment at the front, the door panel is made of excellent leather with tone-on-tone stitching and a strip of polished aluminum, material also used for the internal opening handles, on the window control buttons and as a side dish for the speakers placed in the lower part of the panel. The seats are finished entirely in perforated leather (other packages of materials and colors are available) that allows not only excellent heating in winter but also ventilation during the summer.
The dashboard follows the horizontal design already seen also on the new version of the Porsche 911 Carrera and is always enriched with a polished aluminum finish used then also in the air vents, in the gearbox and in the tunnel keys. However, in the bridge area there are few possible spaces for placing smartphones or other everyday objects. Going up to the rear of the passenger compartment, comfort is not lacking, leaving plenty of room for legs and also for the head unless you choose the panoramic roof that steals a bit of space from the tallest, there are also two rear air vents with the possibility to manage the intensity and finally two USB sockets.
The general assembly could be defined as almost perfect and to be taken as an example by the competitors. Finally, there are so many accessories if you want a custom car tailored to both the exterior (with as many as 14 different types of alloy wheels) and the interior (different colors for the chronograph and tachometer background, the different seams). However, the final price will skyrocket.
The infotainment is 10.9 inches much larger than the previous version (7.9 inches) which forced a redesign of the air vents underneath the screen. The screen at first glance shows an excellent resolution by integrating fundamental elements such as Apple Car Play but without Android Auto (the latter is not even present as an option and is a defect to be well considered).
The car also has a 4g card which allows many functions, including dialogue with the car for certain functions. On the driver’s side, the dashboard integrates 3 “circles”, the one on the left and the central one (the largest of the 3) in analog format indicate engine revs and speed, while the one on the right has a digital solution with multiple functions. As far as the audio system is concerned, an upgrade is available with respect to the basic system with the BOSE Sorround System and the Burmester High-End Sorround Sound-System, considerably raising the sound quality.
The engines of this new Porsche Macan abandon the diesel versions in favor of petrol. A propeller that ensures 100km with 8.9 liters of fuel and CO2 emissions prior to 204g / km as defined by the company. On the highway you easily exceed the 10 km per liter in the city instead you go down to 9 km while in extra-urban 12km / l you go without problems. The gearbox is a 7-speed PDK that is very fast and swift in moving from one relationship to another and in choosing the right gear at the right time.
The driving dynamics of this Macan proves to be a true Porsche. The couple is more affected at the rear than at the front by the typical Stuttgart house tradition. Safety has also been updated with respect to the previous version with the blind corner control of the mirror, distance control on other vehicles, steering intervention for the maintenance of the track and the level 2 “autopilot” system which helps a lot when driving when you are distracted for a few seconds.
