Panamera Turbo is the luxury 4-door sedan from the German company Porsche. From the aesthetic point of view, the dimensions are of impact: 5 meters long and a width exceeding 2 meters. The aesthetics compared to the previous model has revised more changes on the rear area thanks to a LED signature that covers the entire width of the “seat” by joining the two optical groups always to horizontal development.
On the lower part, we find 4 exhausts set on the sides of the bumper, at the top in the area of the rear window there is an adaptive spoiler with electric adjustment. The front is iconic Porsche with the two rounded light clusters and with full LED technology, passing to the lower part of the grille there are air intakes always with horizontally developed geometry. The side cut of the car is very sinuous and considerably lightens the important dimensions of the car.
Porsche Panamera Turbo and Sport Turismo: interiors
The interiors of the Panamera Turbo are very accurate as you would expect from a car of this caliber and they assemble different materials (leather, Alcantara and brushed aluminum) with a very rational and clean design. Also the comfort is very good: the entry and the descent from the car is simple without encumbrances, once seated there is space for both the passengers placed at the rear and at the front of the passenger compartment, the only flaw is the central tunnel that makes the space for those sitting in the center much more restricted.
From the technological and optional point of view for those sitting behind, there is also an independent air conditioner with touch screen buttons, USB sockets, touchscreen display for viewing multimedia contents and electric sun blinds.
The dashboard is also developed horizontally like many other parts of the car and centrally integrates the huge 12-inch infotainment with the sim card reader function for an excellent wireless connection with smartphones, tablets and laptops. On the driver’s side, we have a set of circular instruments, some analog (like the central one for the indication of the engine revolutions) and other digital (the 4 divided into 2, on both sides of the analog central which give many other indications like the maps when reaching a preset destination).
Finally, the trunk is very large compared to competitors with 520 liters but expandable to 1390 total if the rear seats are folded down.
Mechanical engineering, safety and optional
There are three Panamera Turbo models: Porsche Panamera Turbo, Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo and Porsche Panamera TurboExecutive. Let’s take a look at the first two models in detail.
Both have an 8-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox with the first 6 more sporty gears while the seventh and eighth are more of “rest” with low speeds at high speeds (great for long journeys). The traction adopted is an integral PTM (Porsche Traction Management) with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. The suspensions are adaptive 3-chamber pneumatics and with 60% more air expansion volume, there is also the PDCC Sport and the steering rear axle. The driving modes are divided into “normal”, “SPORT” and “SPORT PLUS”.
The wheels mounted range from 19 to 21 inches. The braking system uses 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear with the option of optional carbon-ceramic discs. Other optional features include the full-led matrix headlights with PDLS Plus that allow the beam orientation to be optimized, improving visibility where required and reducing it in the case of oncoming cars. Another security system is the night vision assistant that provides information via an infrared camera on pedestrians or large animals.
The assistance systems integrate: ACC automatically adjusts the car’s speed based on the distance of the vehicle in front, Innodrive system that provides assistance to the driver by monitoring the driving style, assistant for lane changes, assistant for maintenance inside the lane, curve warning system and park assistant with rear view camera and surround view.
The comfort inside the Panamera Turbo is also guaranteed by details such as the panoramic roof, seats with 14 or 18-way electric memory package with heating and self-ventilation function, the Bose Surround Sound System or the Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System.
Both Panamera Turbo models have an 8-cylinder front engine with a maximum power of 550 hp, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8s (3.6s in the Sport Chrono version), top speed of 306km / h and torque of 770Nm. Consumption in the urban area is 14-15 liters per 100km, in the extra-urban area it reaches 8 liters per 100km while in the combined one the 11 liters are touched every 100km.
Differences and prices
The differences between the Panamera Turbo and Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo can be found on the design of the rear: in Sport Turismo, the latter “leavens”, losing the typical more coupé shape, fine and light but obtaining benefits in terms of space and comfort that can be found both interior of the passenger compartment than in the space inside the trunk.
The basic prices are:
